“Is this broker safe?” is the first question to ask before you deposit, and the answer turns on one detail that marketing rarely spells out: which legal entity your account belongs to. A brokerage group usually has several subsidiaries in several countries; the license held by one company does not protect the clients of another.
This article draws on the Licenses & Regulation page, the Fund Safety page, the Insurance page, the Terms of Service and the KYC Policy on the CXM website (cxmvn.net), plus the CXM Prime website in the UK, as of Sep 14, 2026.
The legal entities in the CXM group
| Legal entity | Registered in | Regulator and license (as published by CXM) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| CXM Prime Ltd | UK (London), company no. 13407617 | FCA (UK), reference no. 966753 | Professional clients and eligible partners only; does not serve retail clients |
| CXM Global | Mauritius | FSC Mauritius, investment dealer license GB21026337 | |
| CXM Group (SC) Ltd | Seychelles, registration no. 8437923-1 | FSA Seychelles, license SD231 | |
| CXM Securities LLC | Dubai, UAE | UAE capital market regulator, category 5 | According to CXM, it only introduces and promotes financial services; it does not hold client money and does not execute trades |
| CXM Co. Ltd | Cambodia | Cambodian securities regulator (SERC) | |
| CXM Direct LLC | St. Vincent & the Grenadines, registration no. 444 LLC 2020 | No brokerage license | The entity that issues the Terms of Service and the KYC Policy on cxmvn.net |
Points to keep in mind when you read the table:
- The license numbers come from the CXM website itself. The footer and the Licenses page differ in places (the UAE license number, for example), so look each number up directly on the website of the relevant regulator before you rely on it.
- The financial regulator of St. Vincent & the Grenadines has stated several times that it neither licenses nor supervises Forex brokerage. A company registered there is registered as a business, nothing more.
- CXM Prime Ltd is licensed by the FCA, but according to the CXM Prime website itself the company serves only professional clients and eligible partners. A retail client in Vietnam gets no FCA protection through CXM Prime.
Which legal entity do you sign the agreement with?
The Terms of Service on cxmvn.net open with this sentence: these terms govern the contractual relationship between CXM Direct LLC and the client. The KYC Policy on the same website is also issued by CXM Direct LLC. That indicates that a client who signs up through this website most likely signs the agreement with CXM Direct LLC, the entity that holds no brokerage license.
What that means in practice:
- Mechanisms such as the investor compensation scheme and the financial ombudsman service of the UK do not apply.
- A license in Mauritius or Seychelles is relevant to your account only if the agreement names that exact entity.
- In a dispute you mostly depend on the policy of the broker and on the terms of the agreement.
How to be sure: when you sign up, read the name of the legal entity in the Client Agreement; once the account is open, email support (support@cxm.com) to ask “which legal entity holds my account no. …, and which authority licenses it”, and keep the answer.
How CXM protects client money
From the Fund Safety page and the Insurance page of CXM:
- Segregated accounts: client money is held in separate accounts, apart from the operating funds of the company, at banks CXM describes as “top tier”. The page does not name the banks.
- Negative balance protection: CXM undertakes that a client will not lose more than the account balance, even in violent market moves. That means you can lose everything in the account, but you will not end up owing the broker more.
- Audits: CXM says it carries out periodic financial audits and daily internal reporting. The page does not name the auditor.
- Insurance: risk and professional indemnity insurance for Forex and CFD brokerage, placed in the Lloyd’s market (London) through the insurance broker Howden, with a limit of 5,000,000 (the Insurance page gives the currency as USD in one place and as pounds sterling in another), covering errors, omissions, negligence, fraud and claims. This insures the operations of the company and pays out under the terms of the insurance contract; it is not an undertaking to refund individual clients if something goes wrong at the broker, and that limit is not a figure per account.
- Payment partners: CXM says it works only with payment providers it has vetted.
Those undertakings come from the broker itself. With an entity that holds no license, no regulator checks that they are carried out.
The terms worth reading closely
A few points in the Terms of Service and the KYC Policy that beginners tend to skip:
- Latency arbitrage is not allowed. A trade based on a quote error or on latency can be cancelled without notice, and the broker has the right to adjust the account concerned.
- The broker has the right to close an account and cancel open positions in the breach situations listed in the terms.
- Withdrawals go back to the source you deposited from, no third-party money is accepted, and a withdrawal is only processed once the KYC file has been approved.
- Bank charges are borne by the client; a refund back to a card may be subject to an administrative fee.
An award is not a license
The CXM website presents awards such as “Best Fintech Forex Broker” (2025) and “Best ECN/STP Broker – APAC” (2024). Awards in the Forex industry are usually handed out by media sites and event organizers; they tell you that a broker invests in marketing, not how far your money is protected.
Legal status in Vietnam
Whichever country a broker is licensed in, trading Forex through a foreign broker is not among the foreign-currency transactions permitted under Vietnamese law. It risks being treated as a breach of foreign exchange control rules, and in a dispute Vietnamese law does not protect you. See Is Forex trading legal in Vietnam?.
Check it yourself before you deposit
- Look the license numbers up on the websites of the regulators: FCA (register.fca.org.uk), FSC Mauritius (fscmauritius.org), FSA Seychelles (fsaseychelles.sc).
- Read the name of the legal entity in the Client Agreement when you sign up; email support if it is not clear.
- Only sign in to the client area at the address given on the official CXM website; there are plenty of other websites online using the CXM name.
- Deposit a small amount and withdraw part of it, to find out the real processing time and the real fees.
- Be wary of anyone who promises returns, offers to manage your money for you, or asks you to transfer money to a personal account. See how to spot Forex scams.
Conclusion
CXM is a group with several subsidiaries, one of which is licensed by the FCA, but that company does not serve retail clients; a client who signs up through cxmvn.net most likely signs the agreement with CXM Direct LLC in St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Segregated accounts, negative balance protection and insurance all count in its favor, but all three are undertakings by the broker. If you have weighed all of the above up and still want to try, start with a small amount through the CXM Direct account opening link, and follow the account opening guide.
