On this page
Tickmill currently has two account types for MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, Classic and Raw, plus a Raw account for the Tickmill Trader and TradingView platforms. The Pro and VIP accounts that many older articles about Tickmill mention are no longer on the account overview page.
This article is put together from the page for each account type, the Dynamic Leverage page, the Islamic account page, the terms of the welcome account, the FAQ and the Client Services Agreement of Tickmill Ltd (the May 2026 version), updated on Sep 14, 2026. International clients usually open an account with Tickmill Ltd in Seychelles (FSA Seychelles license number SD008); for the analysis of the legal entity and the insurance, see the Tickmill review.

The real cost of one trade
The cost of opening and closing a trade is the spread when you enter plus the commission on both sides (if there is one), not counting swap if you hold the position overnight.
Take 1 lot of EUR/USD (about 10 USD per pip), on the assumption that the spread is exactly the lowest figure Tickmill publishes:
| Account | Spread | Commission to open and to close | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic | 1.6 pips = 16 USD | 0 | 16 USD |
| Raw (MT4/MT5) | 0.0 pips | 3 + 3 = 6 USD | 6 USD |
| Raw (Tickmill Trader) | 0.0 pips | 3.5 + 3.5 = 7 USD | 7 USD |
The “spread from” figure is only there when the market is liquid. One quick way to compare: the 6 USD of Raw commission is the equivalent of 0.6 pips on 1 lot of EUR/USD, so Raw is cheaper than Classic whenever the real difference in spread between the two accounts is more than 0.6 pips.
A few points to note:
- The Raw commission on MT4/MT5 is charged on Forex and precious metals only. On indices, oil, cryptocurrencies and shares you pay the spread alone; compare the spread of the exact symbol you trade.
- Gold: 1 lot of XAUUSD is 100 ounces, and the Raw commission is 3 USD per side there too.
- How to measure it yourself: the Spreads and swaps page on the Tickmill website carries the minimum spread, the typical spread and the swap for each symbol. Open a demo account of the same type, switch on the Spread column in Market Watch and watch it at several times of day, including news releases.

Dynamic leverage
According to the Dynamic Leverage page and clause 8.4 of the Client Services Agreement, Tickmill uses dynamic leverage with a base ratio of 1:1000: the larger the total open volume, the higher the margin charged on the part of the volume above each threshold.
- It applies on MT5 and Tickmill Trader, to some instruments (the major and cross currency pairs, gold, silver, oil, BTC, ETH, US30, USTEC, DE40). MT4 and the other instruments use fixed leverage.
- On MT5, if you pick account leverage lower than 1:1000, the margin goes up in proportion: pick 1:500 and the margin doubles, pick 1:100 and it is ten times as much.
| Forex volume | Gold volume | Margin | Maximum leverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 – 2 lots | 0 – 1 lot | 0.1% | 1:1000 |
| 2.01 – 200 lots | 1.01 – 50 lots | 0.2% | 1:500 |
| 200.01 – 400 lots | 50.1 – 100 lots | 1% | 1:100 |
| Over 400 lots | Over 100 lots | 10% | 1:10 |
A margin example, EUR/USD at 1.1000 (1 lot is worth about 110,000 USD):
- 1 lot: 0.1% = 110 USD.
- 3 lots: the first 2 lots are charged 0.1% (220 USD) and the third lot 0.2% (220 USD), 440 USD in total.
Margin call at 100%, stop out at 30%
Your margin level is your current equity divided by the margin in use. Below 100% is a margin call, and at 30% the system starts closing positions.
Take a 500 USD account that opens 1 lot of EUR/USD with leverage of 1:1000 (margin 110 USD): a loss of 39 pips leaves equity of 110 USD, which is a margin call; a loss of about 47 pips leaves equity of 33 USD (30% of 110 USD) and the position is closed. Fewer than 50 pips have taken more than 90% of the account.
On the same account, open 0.03 lots with a stop loss 30 pips away: reaching the stop loss costs about 9 USD, under 2% of the account. Leverage only decides how large a position you are allowed to open; it is your position size and your stop loss that decide how much you lose. See the IBFX guides on what leverage is and how much of it to use, and on the 2% money management rule.
The Islamic (swap-free) account
- Conversion: a Classic or Raw account can be converted to Islamic; send the request in the client area or through the support desk, and Tickmill handles it in about 1 business day. Once the first account has been converted, every account you open afterwards is swap-free as well.
- A handling fee instead of swap: on some instruments, after a set number of free days, Tickmill charges a handling fee worked out per lot (the table is on the Islamic account page).
- Cryptocurrencies: a buy position is charged swap at 10% a year after 5 free days.
- Stop out: the Islamic account page gives margin call/stop out as 100%/50%, which differs from the 30% on the Classic and Raw pages; ask the support desk which level applies to your account.
Swap-free does not mean that holding a position for a long time is free. See the IBFX guide on what a swap is.
The 30 USD welcome account
Tickmill Ltd runs a welcome account program for new clients. Under the terms of the program:
- The account has the same trading conditions as a Raw account, is denominated in USD and is credited with 30 USD; the leverage can be changed.
- You can only trade it for 60 days, after which you have 14 days to claim the profit; EAs cannot be used; one account per person, and matching IP addresses may get an account blocked; EU citizens and clients who already have an account are not eligible.
- The initial 30 USD cannot be withdrawn. Only the profit, from 30 USD up to a maximum of 100 USD, can be moved to the wallet, once only, and you have to register for the client area with the same details, submit a complete set of verification documents, deposit at least 100 USD into the wallet and then email a request to support@tickmill.com.
Treat this account as a demo account with a small amount of real money in it, something to get used to execution, spreads and the psychology of trading, not as a way to earn.
Tickmill Trader and TradingView
A Raw account on Tickmill Trader can also be used on TradingView (you log in with your Tickmill Trader account details). According to the Tickmill Trader page: spread from 0.0 pips, commission 3.5 USD per lot per side, no commission on index CFDs, cryptocurrencies, oil and bonds; dynamic leverage up to 1:1000.
According to the Tickmill FAQ, when you open a live Tickmill Trader account a demo account is created alongside it. A Tickmill Trader/TradingView account with a balance of 50 USD or less and no activity is archived after 30 days (60 days for MT4/MT5), and the balance is moved to the wallet.
If you mostly trade indices, oil or cryptocurrencies and you like TradingView charts, Raw on Tickmill Trader may be cheaper, because none of those groups is charged commission. If you mostly trade Forex and gold, Raw on MT4/MT5 is 0.5 USD per side cheaper.
General rules to know
- At most 7 live trading accounts per client, counting TradingView, MT4, MT5 and Tickmill Trader.
- Pick your platform when you open the account: an MT4 account only logs in on MT4, and an MT5 account only on MT5.
- The dormant client area fee: no activity for more than 12 months with a balance of 50 USD or less is charged 10 USD per quarter (clause 6.12 of the Client Services Agreement).
- Deposits and withdrawals: no fee; the money is withdrawn back to the method you deposited from. See the guide to deposits and withdrawals at Tickmill.
Choosing an account
| Your situation | Suggestion |
|---|---|
| Just starting out, a few trades a week | Demo first; if you trade live, Classic to keep the costs simple, or the 30 USD welcome account to get used to things |
| Trading Forex and gold often, scalping, using an EA | Raw on MT4/MT5, after measuring the real spread on a demo account |
| Trading indices, oil or cryptocurrencies, and you like TradingView | Raw on Tickmill Trader |
| Needing swap-free for religious reasons | Classic or Raw converted to Islamic; read the handling fee table |
| Wanting fixed leverage that is easy to work out | MT4, with low leverage picked when you open the account |
The right account is the one with the lowest total cost for the instruments and the trading frequency you actually have, and the one that lets you keep your position size small relative to your capital. Once you have chosen, you can open a Tickmill account through our referral link and follow the guide to opening a Tickmill account.
Legal status in Vietnam
Whichever country a broker is licensed in, trading Forex through a foreign broker is not among the foreign-currency transactions permitted under Vietnamese law. It risks being treated as a breach of foreign exchange control rules, and in a dispute Vietnamese law does not protect you. See Is Forex trading legal in Vietnam?.
Be wary of anyone who promises you a profit, offers “managed accounts” or asks you to transfer money to a personal account. See how to spot Forex scams.
Conclusion
Classic suits someone who wants simple costs and pays the spread only; Raw suits someone who trades Forex and gold often and is willing to pay commission for a lower spread. Two things that are easy to miss: dynamic leverage applies only on MT5 and Tickmill Trader (MT4 uses fixed leverage), and a stop out level of 30% means that a large position can take almost the whole account before it is closed.
If you want to try, start with a demo account, choose low leverage, then deposit a small amount through the Tickmill sign-up link and try withdrawing part of it to find out how long it really takes.
